Racked with Christmas Card Guilt...

Well it's now happened the fourth year in a row (or
at least it has almost happened). Christmas has come
and gone I have neglected to do my "wifely" duty of
sending Christmas cards and a warm greeting to
everyone. It's not so bad, except yesterday we
recieved a whole bunch in the mail and I thought,
"why didn't I do this again?" The first year we were
married I had just barely survived my first quarter
of nursing school and I didn't feel like sending them
out. The second year Steven had just left for Iraq
and I didn't feel like sending them out. The third
year Steven had just gotten back from Iraq and I
really didn't care. And now this year I feel like
everything has made life busy, busy, busy (three sets
of military orders, being nine months pregnant, a
funeral, 2 pre-term labors, etc.). Which is kinda
funny I think since I'm not currently working outside
the home, but I feel incredibly busy. I'm imagining
if I did what retailers did and started getting ready
for Christmas right after Independence day, I'd get
them out next year. So this webpage will have to take
the place of the warm greeting. Of course if you're
following this webLog you probably know all about
life in the Rushing household. So let's see if we
can't make this message a little different.
Well Steven spends his days fixing computers for other people (really and truly). He fixed 4 last week. He's fixed one this week so far, but it's only Tuesday morning, so he's still got time to catch up. He says when we move, we're not allowed to tell anybody he's a computer nerd. However, number one, I doubt they would miss it if they came to our house and saw computers outnumber people 2 to 1 here. And number two, I think he loves it. Just takes a lot of time. Mostly because we no longer live in the Silicon Valley and computer nerds are in short supply here. My husband is a valuable asset to the Augusta, Georgia community. He's also taking online courses, currently Algebra and a Political Science class. I pick up the Algebra book and suddenly realize how my parents felt when I was in 7th grade and asked them for help on my homework. Math is truly one you use or you lose. Steven's enjoying them though. After these 2 classes he's got 4 more for an Associate's Degree and then on to a Bachelor's in Computer Nerdness :)
I hate to say this (since I swore I'd never do it), but it's probably true and I think I'm spending my days nesting (like a bird getting ready for her young). 11 days and counting until D day and really I don't think the house has been in better shape. The freezer is full of casseroles (which is amazing since I don't like to cook). The laundry is done every other day instead of once a week. And the baby books are alphabetized (what was I thinking). Just plotting along until we have a baby now, everything else seems secondary (even Christmas). And very much ready for it for more than one reason. I was reading that as a mother gets closer to her due date her sleeping schedule aligns itself with her baby's. I would have thought that was silly, except for the fact I honestly have not slept for more than 90 minute stretches in the past 3 weeks. I wake up 6 times a night at the minumum. And I've come to discover that as much as the first 8 months or pregnancy are not fun physically, the ninth month is worse. So yes, 11 days and counting.
So that's life at the Rushing house and my Christmas card in a nutshell. Hope life is wonderful for all of you. Best wishes,
Märia
