Grandpa Russ reporting in...

I read Lonnie's very first posting today and thought I would follow in his footsteps by posting an entry, too. Just remember Lonnie, spring is on the way.

Pam and I (Märia's mom and dad) just returned from our first-ever cruise. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary by doing a 7-day eastern Caribbean cruise. We visited Nassau (Bahamas), St Thomas (US Virgin Islands), and St Martens (Netherlands Antilles). While in our various ports of call we went snorkeling on a coral reef, mountain bike riding, and snorkeling on three ship wrecks. We also enjoyed some of the best food anywhere; we both gained 10 pounds to attest to the quality and quantity of the food.

One of the coolest moments on the cruise happened while we were in Nassau. There was a beautiful 100-foot sail boat at the dock, and it was named, Scheherazade. I knew my granddaughter was special but I did not know she had friends in the Caribbean who named their boat after her.

I highly recommend that everyone go on at least one cruise, if for nothing else than to check it out. We are sold on it and will go on another cruise next year probably the western Caribbean (Cozumel, Belize, Grand Cayman, and Nassau). Maybe we can talk Steven and Märia into joining us; I am sure Seporah‚Äôs Uncle Josh would love taking care of her for a week.

To celebrate our anniversary cruise, we are going to Disneyland. I have not seen my favorite mouse in a couple of years and look forward to it. We are excited that Seporah has talked her mom into coming to visit us in Washington next month. Spoiling my granddaughter is my favorite past time and I guess her mom can have fun, too!

I am pleased to welcome Jason Rushing into the marathon club! When folks ask why on earth we would run 26.2 miles; we just say because it was there. I don’t think you can properly explain the thrill of crossing the finish line after running for so many hours. My only question to Jason is, when are you going to run your second marathon; once you catch the bug, running becomes a part of you!

Well, here is to everyone having a happy and prosperous new year!
